• Biographie:

Le groupe punk pop Green Day se forme en 1989 à Berkeley aux Etats-Unis. Les deux amis d'enfance Billie Joe Armstrong (guitare, chant) et Mike Dirnt (basse) forment à l'âge de 14 ans leur premier groupe Sweet Children à Rodeo en Californie. Avec l'arrivée du batteur Al Sobrante, Sweet Children devient Green Day et signe le maxi 1,000 Hours qui reçoit un bon accueil sur la scène punk hardcore californienne. John Kiftmeyer remplace Al Sobrante et Green Day enregistre son premier album 39/Smooth. Peu après, Tre Cool entre dans la formation à la place de John Kiftmeyer. En 1992, le groupe sort l'album Kerplunk . Le succès arrive en 1994 avec l'album Dookie qui contient les singles Longview et Basket case. Ce disque se vend à plus de dix millions d'exemplaires dans le monde. Fin 1995, Green Day enchaîne avec l'album Insomniac qui se vend à plus de deux millions d'exemplaires. Se plaignant d'être épuisé, le groupe annule sa tournée européenne et se laisse une année pour écrire l'album suivant Nimrod qui sort en 1997. Après trois d'absence, Green Day envahit les bacs avec une nouvelle livraison Warning chez Wea. Suit un best of avec deux inédits.
